10 Step Plan for Summer Internet Use

10 Step Plan for Summer Internet Use

“Schools out for the summer” as Alice Cooper sings, “no more pencils, no more books, no more teachers dirty looks” BUT – what does that mean for your kids with all that time on their hands? Take a few minutes with your kids to establish some “rules” for the summer. Together, create a plan -

  1. How many hours a day can they spend online
  2. What time of the day can the computer be used
  3. What kind of games or sites are allowed
  4. Computer time includes gaming systems, MP3s, phones – all devices
  5. What are the rules about webcam use
  6. Who can they chat with, play with, etc online
  7. What are the consequences (good and bad) about following the rules
  8. Remember the rules apply even if they are at someone else’s home
  9. Do they know what to do if something or someone makes them feel uncomfortable online
  10. What is the plan if they experience signs of cyberbullying or see friends bullied

Discussing the plan in advance lets your kids know that you are only concerned with their safety and not prying into their online world. It also keeps those lines of communication open so they know you’re willing to discuss it all.

Not sure how to get started with your younger children? Here is another great post from our friends at Common Sense Media. Great tips - 10 Simple Steps to Internet Safety.

Thank you Teddybear!I can’t believe that it has been a year aleardy that we have been running the website. We have a wonderful community of local families and without all of the people who play their part in everything we have done in the last year it would not have been the success that it has been.So I’d like to say a Big Thank you to everyone who has taken part and shown an interest in the website and the projects we have worked on over the last year.I really enjoy everything about Chorleywoodmums and hope to do lots more over the coming year!
